Two Mexican brothers , Rodolfo and Reynaldo , work as laborers in the United States , Reynaldo dreams of returning to Mexico and does not accept becoming a naturalized American. One day Reynaldo is fired from his job as an undocumented immigrant he can not complain. He wants to return to Mexico but his family refuses to accompany him.

Murat (Ilhan Kuyululu), an older Turkish migrant in Australia, works hard to achieve his dream of buying a truck, and of returning a rich man to Turkey to marry the woman he loves. He uses his savings to visit Turkey to celebrate his sister's wedding. Running in parallel is another story, featuring the younger Ayhan (Sait Memisoglu), who in contrast has an affair with an Australian girl Sarah (Kate Sheil).

De Gouden Kooi was the original concept and working title for Big Brother. In 2006, it was revived and turned into another format of reality television.The idea for De Gouden Kooi was born on 4 September 1997 during a brainstorm session at the John de Mol Produkties production house, an independent branch of Endemol. Participants were John de Mol himself, Patrick Scholtze, Bart Römer and his brother Paul Römer. After John de Mol left Endemol he reintroduced the original format for his TV-station Talpa.

Edmunds Berzs is an architect who has achieved a comfortable life, but this causes him unease, so he decides to go to the country house where his mother lives. There he wakes up to find himself locked in a cage in the middle of the forest. Edmunds, paradoxically, finds the tranquility he was looking for.

She was once the wife of an important man, lived in a beautiful house in Hradčany, and was friends with the famous race car driver Eliška Junková. Today, however, she lives somewhere on the outskirts of Prague in a ground-floor apartment overlooking the courtyard and the street, alone and abandoned by practically everyone. Her husband died a long time ago, and her life now consists only of regular meetings with the postwoman, who brings her pension and her favorite motoring magazines, and regular help at the rectory and the local church. She occasionally cooks and bakes for Father Jan, and with her characteristic willingness, she also does his laundry and ironing. However, one of the last certainties in her life collapses unexpectedly quickly—Father Jan is transferred somewhere to Hradec Králové and is replaced by a young priest who is used to doing everything himself. At that moment, a smiling young man with dark glasses and a flower in his hand enters Květa Galová's life.

They don't really know each other. She lives in penury. He holds a pawnshop. Poverty makes her marry him, despite she doesn't love him and even despises. After the marriage takes place, the family war begins. Based on a novel 'A Gentle Creature' by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
